Mendelssohn and Schumann Concert 1

Scottsdale Series - Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts

Tito Muñoz, conductor
Melita Hunsinger, cello

Mendelssohn: Overture to A Midsummer Night's Dream
Schumann: Cello Concerto in A minor, Op.129
Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 4, “Italian” (1834 Version)

• The Phoenix Symphony returns to Scottsdale Center for the Arts for a three concert series with a focus on the similarities and contrasts of the works of Mendelssohn and Schumann.
• Mendelssohn’s Overture to Shakespeare’s famous comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream displayed the composer’s skill at such a young age, a piece so good it required a sequel.
• Phoenix Symphony Principal Cellist Melita Hunsinger will take the stage in Schumann’s Cello Concerto, personal and emotionally lyrical, a star in the Romantic repertoire.
• Inspired by the landscapes from a trip to Italy, Mendelssohn’s “Italian” Symphony is bright and sunny and full of dance. Join The Phoenix Symphony as Maestro Muñoz leads Mendelssohn’s revised 1834 version of this iconic work.
