Michael Christie Conducts Liszt's Dante Symphony

Continue to celebrate with Virginia G. Piper Music Director Michael Christie in his final season. The Phoenix Symphony and Chorus come together for an explosive and romantic performance of Liszt’sDante Symphony. This work, based on Dante Alighieri’s journey through hell and purgatory, as depicted in "The Divine Comedy" is paired with Antonio Estévez’s dramatic La Cantata Criolla, Venezuela’s best-known nationalistic composition. Based on a poem by Alberto Arvelo Torrealba called “Florentino and the Devil,” the chorus and symphony combine to colorfully paint a tale of a singing contest between the two title characters. Don’t miss Maestro Christie at his best in the world of great choral masterpieces.

Experience this powerhouse duo as they explore together Tchaikovsky’s monumental work with Steven Moeckel's virtuoso technique being described as “as close to perfect as this life allows.”
